This week on BOW magazine we have been catching up with the UKs new talent, he is better known as Enersis. His new album There "Ain’t No Such Thing" have left critics stunned, one of our most reliable reviewers quoted “Out of this world”. We have been speaking to Enersis he is a truly amazing young lad.
Enersis otherwise known as Charlie Wolfe has grown up in Lutterworth, Leicestershire the majority of his life. In his child hood he lived with his foster parents in a two bedroom flat with him and his brother. He discovered his massive musical talent at the age of ten when he learnt to play the acoustic guitar and then set up a band with his brother and their friends. He played gigs in his local church most weekends, when his friends were getting into trouble Charlie was in his room either listening to music or composing it. At school Charlie was always told by his music teacher that he could never achieve his dream of being a musician, he claims that this was what gave him the determination to succeed in his dreams.
At sixteen Enersis got invited to join a music academy in Leicester however, he was denied as his foster parents could not afford to pay for this music academy. So if Charlie ever wanted to make it big he would have to think of a new strategy. Within the next year he discovered Hip Hop, this changed his life upside down, Charlie stated the thing he loves most about making Hip Hop music is that the lyrics can be so powerful and affect people’s attitudes. Not long after he mastered Hip Hop he was then signed, this was everything he had ever wished for in his whole life, and it all came true.
Current day Enersis says that he doesn’t regret any decisions that he has made in the past, as they have made him the man he is today. Enersis is 19 and already brought out an outstanding album that will remain a Hip Hop classic. Enersis is different to a lot of the stars from this genre as most of the artists sing about money, girls and rivalries, well not Enersis he sings about the good of the world. His lyrics are very emotional and touching and really make you feel lucky and good about your life.
Charlie Wolfe is an interesting character; he is not your typical type of Hip Hop Artist. He attends church every Sunday without fail, as he said that god has inspired a lot of his lyrics and he wants to make this world a better place. He trains in Boxing three days of the week, he also is the first ever music artist of any genre to fight semi-professional. He has said that his backup in life if the music industry hadn’t accepted him, and he failed himself, he would always have boxing to fall back on to which has always made him more daring as this helps him feel stable in his decisions and take more risks. Also in his spare time he visits less fortunate families like his own to give support, I asked him if there is any message you can give the youths of today what would it be, he simply replied, you “There Ain’t No Such Thing” as can’t you can do anything in life just put your mind to it. This is why his album is called what it is; he says his foster dad always told him ever since he was a child “There Ain’t No Such Thing” as can’t.
During the interview we asked Enersis:
Were there any main role models from the music industry that you had as a child? Of course I have the Beatles as one of my many role models when I was a child as the majority of people do, just because of the success they achieved and I always wanted this success. The role models I had have definitely made me into the person I am today.
What have you been doing for the last 2 months? I have been creating my new album! I have put all my time into this album and hope people will see that when listening. There were some nights when I was in the studio till like 10pm sometimes and this is not just because I love making music but also I love my fans and want to make them proud just as much as proving to myself I can do it.
What are you going to do now all your hard work is done? Well I think I’m just going to chill with the family for awhile whilst I see how successful my new album has become and then decided on my path as a music artist. And of course take my family on the holiday they have always wanted as I owe everything to them as they have made me the character I am today and without them I would be no one!
What got you interested in the genre of music that you are now producing? Oh tough question, if I’m honest the reason I came into this genre is because of the poverty I come from. My family couldn’t afford to support me in a music academy I got invited to and if I’m honest It was so frustrating that I couldn’t carry on my talent because of money. I then discovered Hip-Hop and began to fall in love with it; I then started creating songs from this new obsession! I love Hip-Hop as it lets me get things of my chest and speak the truth in my songs!
What modern day music artist do you look up to? I get asked this a lot and it has to be Akala as he comes from a poor family just like me and he has made it big, but most importantly makes music because he loves it and not for the money. I might not take the exact same path as he does aka not getting signed by a record company just to prove that he’s not for the money, but he is defiantly a hero in my eyes!
“Albums out 8th March if you are even slightly interested in music, please give my album a listen, take care all”
Enersis.
